Madonna Breaks with Interscope; Creating Her Own Record Label

spacer.png

Madonna’s contract with Interscope Records has expired making the artist a free agent after nearly 10 years with the label, Variety has learned.

In 2011, the pop superstar signed a three-album deal with the Universal Music Group company. She released “MDNA” in 2012 and her latest release, “Rebel Heart” in 2015, with the third promised project yet to be released. However, it seems the Queen of Pop decided to pay a multimillionaire fine rather than continue on the deal. According to a reliable source, the "Like A Virgin" singer is setting a new crew of people to help her build a new label, having herself as the owner of a record label once again - she was one of the main founders of Maverick, extinct in 2009.

Madonna has made no mention of a departure from the Interscope on her social media, although she was may have been alluding to a new start on this Thursday night when she posted an Instagram message about her humble career origins, writing: “No YouTube, No Vine, No The Voice, No American Idol, No Disney. Just $35 dollars and a dream.” (Subsequently, she also posted that she is spending her quarantine time working on a screenplay with Diablo Cody.)

Her first-ever music deal was back in 1982 with Sire Records, which is owned by Warner Music Group and distributed by Warner Records. With the company, Madonna released her self-titled debut album in 1983, “Like a Virgin” (1984), “True Blue” (1986) and “Like a Prayer” (1989). “Erotica” (1992) and “Bedtime Stories” (1994) were co-released by Sire and Maverick, an entertainment company that was co-founded by Madonna, although she left in 2004 after a lawsuit between the company and WMG.

She went on to release several albums on the Warner Bros. label, including “Ray of Light” (1998), “Music” (2000), “American Life” (2003), “Confessions on a Dance Floor” (2005) and “Hard Candy” (2008).

In late 2007, she announced her split from Warner Music Group and revealed her new $120 million, 10-year deal with Interscope, which was part of a 360 deal with Live Nation. Her catalog and publishing remains at WMG prompting some speculation as to whether she might return to the company.

Madonna is known as one of the most influential people in pop culture and is recognized as the best-selling female musician of all time, having sold more than 300 million records worldwide.

The “Vogue” singer is gearing up for the next instalment in her immaculate collection, almost six years after the release of Rebel Heart. In the summer of 2018, Madonna relocated to Portugal with her ever-growing army of children. Being the culture-vulture she is, it was almost inevitable that she’d find something to pilfer for her next project.

Her latest European excursion seems to have led her to Batuque music. The singer posted footage of some sessions with a female band from Cape Verde at a Lisbon studio. Batuque is the oldest music genre in Cape Verde, an archipelago in the Atlantic ocean colonized by the Portugese in the 15th century. Madonna has also reunited with her longtime collaborator Mirwais  - The two have cooked up some of the pop queen's biggest hits to date, including collaborations on albums “Music”, “American Life” and “Confessions on a Dance Floor”.

BRITNEY SPEARS SET TO WIN AT COURT AGAINST CONSERVATORSHIP

spacer.png

After being placed in a conservatory 12 years ago for a moment of personal meltdown caused by extreme media pressure and personal problems, the world got used to knowing that Britney Spears had her father in charge of her life. What the world did not expect, however, is that a conservatorship process like this would, in fact, only be a facade for an abusive and corrupted system.

Thanks to the first sparks that started in 2019 with a leak from an insider detailing the troubled relationship of Spears and her father, the #FreeBritney movement exploded around the globe, with protests and new opinions at the conservatorship that the singer's father, Jamie Spears, struggled and fought to maintain all these years. However, after months of investigation and an excellent team of lawyers, today (28), reliable sources and experts in law confirmed to CNN that the case is "basically solved, with victory of Britney".

The acquittal of the conservatory was carried out in several stages; while a financial and administrative investigation was carried out by company Bessemer Trust and Spears' lawyer, Samuel Ingham, the singer was required to make a series of psychological and psychiatric assessments, which could examine her psychic, mental, emotional and even motor conditions. The singer passed all exams and got positive results only, having what was defined as a "radiant and unique personality, with a colorful and optimistic point of view of the world, despite bringing clear effects of PTSD caused by the conservatorship and damages made by both media and the conservatorship itself" according to a document released today, Bessemer seems to have finally found documents proving the transaction of monumental amounts of money between Jamie Spears, Lou Taylor - Britney Spears representative since 2009 and close friend of the singer's father - and other representatives from the many companies under Spears' name.

According to reliable sources, the "Toxic" singer is optimistic about the hearing and has been working in silent in a new project that might be announced along with the reclaim of her freedom.

A new hearing is set to happen this next Monday, March 1st.

Britney Spears Wins in Court: Free from Conservatorship After 12 Years

spacer.png

After twelve years under a conservatorship, Britney Spears finally received her freedom back today, March 1st, after a hearing held in Los Angeles. Unlike the different hearings that took place during last year through video calls due to the pandemic, due to the importance of the material presented in this hearing, both parts involved were present in person. Judge Brenda Penny formalized the end of the conservatorship after the presentation of several pieces of evidence showing huge money transactions between Jamie Spears - the singer's father -, Lou Taylor - the singer's ex-business manager - and several other employees responsible for business under the name of Spears.

Organized by her lawyer Samuel Ingham and the financial team Bessemer Trust, the Spears team not only proved the illegality of the conservatorship in the financial and professional spheres but also in personal aspects, with reports from witnesses that supported the singer with reports of several episodes of abuse and psychological terror caused by Jamie Spears and Lou Taylor, in order to manipulate and control the singer with threats that she would no longer see her children - Sean Preston and Jayden James - but also that she would lose all of her fortune, her properties and her career, leaving her heirs without anything.

According to Judge Penny, "the Spears case opens eyes to US justice and the thousands of conservatorship cases that are active in the country and deserve to be reviewed" and that "no person should live under such limitations unless when in fact necessary, in situations involving the risk of one's own and others' lives, and immense losses of material goods, in addition to the lack of self-control and autonomy". Penny also added that in case the singer weren't able to take care of herself, she declared that "measures would be taken for the immediate replacement of the conservatorship team, after the tragic revelations of illegal transactions in a gigantic financial hole, amongst psychological damages made in the conservatoree", but that "none of these possibilities were presented in Spears' exams", and by that "there is no need to keep her in a conservatorship" since "No human being should be defined for just a moment, an act, an episode of our lives, especially if faked as Spears were allegedly considered 'demented', which is clearly not the truth" and that "We are constantly changing and evolving and we need to support that instead of oppressing innocent people".

At the end of the hearing, the press obviously ran to speak to Spears that, smiling and visibly moved, answered some questions quickly as she walked back to her car. Britney Spears revealed that she doesn't intend to sue her father because "[He] already lives in a situation of self-sabotage so gruesome and in a tragic case of alcoholism that putting him in a situation like that would be as cruel as what he did to me, I'm not that kind of person. I just don't want him in my life anymore", but that she does intend to sue Lou Taylor for her "sick brainwashing on me, my family and close ones (...) she did what she did and deserves to be punished" and to work on helping people under illegal conservatorships around the country. The singer also made sure to send a shoutout to The New York Times, thanking them for the Framing Britney Spears documentary that has lighten up and opened up the eyes from the world: "I'll be forever grateful for them to bringing the truth to surface in a very polite and honest way".

When asked what she intends to do now that she is free, Spears immediately replied, "We have already applied to return with my boys shared custody, and I know Kevin will accept" and that she wants to "Thank the people who were by my side all the time and that were the fuel for this explosion: my fans". According to her lawyer, Ingham, the singer will spend the next few days officializing her new team - from manager to assistants and her whole crew, which was previously chosen by her father -, in addition to signing with a new record label, as she is "Craving to release new music she's been working on her own, for her fans" - the singer refused to work while being under the conservatorship, and couldn't release her own material without the approval of her legal team.

Ingham confirmed that Spears should give her first interview about the conservatorship and to clarify several other questions by Friday, as negotiations are already underway with names such as Oprah and the morning shows Good Morning America and Today. According to reliable sources, along with her first interview after becoming free again, the "Toxic" singer is about to announce a big project in the next days.

Madonna Launches New Record Label under Universal Music Group: Essential Records

spacer.png

After breaking her last deal with Interscope that included a three-album deal but having only two released, Madonna officially announced on this Monday (1) the launch of her own record label: Essential Records. Under Universal Music Group and once again with her long-time partner, Guy Oseary, as co-founder, along with a new partner named Elvira Malbot, this is the second time the "Holiday" singer launches her own label, as she was one of the founders from Maverick - a company that included a record label, founded in 1992 and that even signed huge names such as Alanis Morissette and Lenny Kravitz.

Through a private event in Lisbon that included a few selected group of press and media, the singer announced the UMG subsidiary Essential Records, proclaiming that "As essential implies belonging to the very nature of a thing and therefore being incapable of removal without destroying the thing itself or its character, this label is the first door I'm opening in the direction of a new step in my life and career that is definitely needed for my own sanity and clarity as a human, woman, mother and artist. It's a high evaluation of what's truly necessary to me and my team and what we want to highlight to the world". According to Madonna, the label will focus on a new and interesting perspective, working with the artist as a partner in art and business, instead of a hired employee.

During the launch event, Madonna also confirmed that she's working on new music as expected - "I'll be travelling to America in the next weeks, I think that says it all", she said, revealing barely anything as she also had "No comments" on her most recent Instagram post that included a red-bolded letter X, and that she already has her eye on "someone that I admire and consider a friend" that she would "love to have under the Essential label for being truly essential to the world", not mentioning any names, but giving a wink to the people in the room.

Everything We Know About Madonna's New Album

spacer.png

The GRAMMY-winning Queen of Pop aka Madonna has put out countless enduring hits over the years, and has played a role in many iconic moments in music, fashion and culture, but she is far from finished. The singer has confirmed that she is working on her next album to be released in 2021. What can we expect from her 14th studio album?

The album marks Madonna’s reunion with Mirwais.
Mirwais was a relatively obscure French producer until Madonna got ahold of his demo tape and decided to tap him to produce and co-write select songs on her album Music (including the titular single) and most of its follow-up, American Life, and some songs on Confession on a Dance Floor. Despite her reputation, Madonna remains pretty loyal to her favorite contributors. After Instagram posts, we're sure the duo worked together in the album.

Steven Klein is behind the album art.
Though there were some rumors that Madge might reunite with another of her superstar photographer collaborators, instead she officially returned to Steven Klein, as reported to Billboard, who also shot the covers for Hard Candy and Confessions.

The album is already mixed.
Late last year, Madonna shared multiple posts from the recording studio as she wrapped up the album. In one clip, her daughter Estere toys with a keyboard while singing into a microphone, the eight-year-old's voice reverberating throughout the studio. In another, Madonna appears hard at work on its final touches, captioning the post, "Final mixes.............Everything must be [100]!" Though she tagged producers Mirwais and Mike Dean in the caption's hashtags, Madge muted the video's sound, leaving the final product shrouded in mystery.

Portugal-inspired Sound?
The Queen of Pop has been living in Portugal since mid-2018 when she moved to the country to support her son, David, in his passion for soccer. According to Madonna herself, she's been inspired by the country and the world, and these themes might be explored in the songs. Her most recent album is 2015's Rebel Heart, and touches on some of the themes and sounds we've heard from Madonna over the years. The last thing fans have heard from Madonna's new music was her performance at the 2018 MET Gala, in which she performed three songs, her breakout single "Like A Prayer," a cover of Leonard Cohen's classic "Hallelujah" and new unreleased song "Beautiful Game", expected to be in the album.

This will mark Madonna's first release in her newest record label, Essential Records.
More info coming soon.

AYA ET NISKA: LEUR DUO LEAKED!?!

leak.png

Out of nowhere, a new leak found its way on to the Internet, and it features two highly famous French musical acts who use to be ex-lovers. Last night, a Twitter user posted about having inside information, a link was published to the remix of Niska's "Réseaux", his biggest single yet, featuring new vocals and bars from Aya Nakamura, his ex-girlfriend which accused him of being abusive. This version was acclaimed by fans online, saying it was "far superior from the original version", despite the sad situation surrounding the record.

Bon-matin-pfff.png

But then, another record leaked online, and it's not just a remix this time. "Monaco", a new song featuring ad-libs and lyrics by the 26-years-old Parisian rapper. According to Aya's tweet, it was originally planned to be on her new album, but was scrapped after she ended her relationship with Niska. It also features a cover which many believe to be Aya's new album cover, but she later denied those claims.

 Bon-matin-pfff-2.png

What do you think of the song? Should've she kept it for the public attention? Was this leak planned?
