El Salvador becomes the first country to accept bitcoins as an official currency. It's important to note that the country's own currency has been out of use for about 20 years and their coin de facto is the US dollar.

El Salvador’s Bitcoin law comes into force on Tuesday following its announcement in June, making the country the first to adopt cryptocurrency as legal tender along with the US dollar. On the eve of the implementation of the new law, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele announced the purchase of 400 bitcoins, worth around $20 million. Bukele has claimed the move would increase financial inclusion, investment and economic development; however, there have been protests against it, with many saying they do not know how to use the digital coin, Sky News reported.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer would ‘back wealth taxes’ to fund social care reform but refuses to reveal plan

Sir Keir Starmer has told Sky News he would back "wealth taxes" to fund social care reform - but refused to reveal if he had his own plan.

The Labour leader told Sky's political editor, Beth Rigby, a "range of options" needs to be looked at after criticising the government for voting to increase National Insurance to boost social care funding.

He has been lambasted from all sides for failing to provide his own plan for reforming social care, including by former Labour health secretary Andy Burnham.
