Emilia Perez seems to have awards  push from Europe, but the film opened in Spain last week and finished #10 on the box office. I have the impression Latin people don’t like the portrayal in it and the stereotypes it has. The film is by a French director.

It's getting total skulldragged on social media, it's full of viral tweets against the movie, especially for the fact it's a movie about Mexico made by a French director who doesn't even speak Spanish plus all the Selena drags for not speaking Spanish fluently.

I think if it wasn't for the Cannes win, this wouldn't had awards buzz.

Too many contenders this year, there will be obviously somebody missing, she's definitely the kind of contender that can easily miss, not American and unknown there, no strong career filmography, and from what I heard Zaldana performance is stronger and more central in the movie.

it also surprise me a lot the Danielle Deadwyler snub at GG :whatga:

She's lone nominee for a mid movie, people have been predicting her because she's coming from a snub like Gaga, but being a sole nominee in supporting it's usually difficult to get.

Pamela Anderson and Demi Moore... I don't see them getting a nod at Academy

Let's say that right now, nobody is safe, all the contenders have pro-cons, but I would say Demi Moore is likely to happen even if it's not a conventional Oscar performance, the movie has been one of the most buzzed of the year, it felt a beloved movie and she has done a great campaign so far.

Pamela Anderson is definitely not happening imo, this Globe nomination is her reward also because of 12 slots in lead, but I don't see her happening with other awards with less slots.

The way every year all these precursor awards get less and less meaning for the Oscars. The acting branch did it last year with a contender(Margot Robbie) in Best Picture, after Gaga in 2022.  I feel like many contenders end up missing by being #3 or #4 in ballots or because they think others will vote for them like this recent case.

This was worse than Gaga since Barbie received both Supporting roles nominations :gaga-dead:

Yes, I think one of the two Wicked actresses may miss due to the same reason.

I didn't see the movie yet... but I think Academy always embrace dramatic performances so idk if movie is drama enough to get many nominations specially in acting categories

Normally a movie like 'Wicked', a fantasy aimed to kids a la 'Harry Potter' has rarely been recognized by the Academy, just the 'Lord of Rings' come to mind and it was mostly technical categories, no acting ones, that is why I was surprised it's just 73 on Metacritic.
