Boris Johnson spoke to Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the Conservative backbench 1922 Committee, and agreed to stand down.

Johnson will make a statement to the country to day, expected to be before lunchtime. The timetable of his departure is still unclear for now.

Johnson just delivered his resignation speech. It's now official.

How are your feelings? Generally it seems that Johnson was never liked by the Brits, but he seemed somehow successful despite of it?

He was fairly popular until recently. With him gone, the Tory’s chances of winning the next election again has increased.

Are you a Tory or Labour supporter or some other party?

Not a loyal supporter of any party. Generally centre-left leaning so Labour is a good fit currently.

People love to compare him to Trump but he was really a George W. Bush figure. He was so properly educated and connected, the party and the press rose like a wave to deliver the premiership. Being a buffoon was just a bonus.

But, how you win it is how you lose it and he is really so odious, he could only hold on for so long.

New PM will be selected by 05 September.

Nominations open and close today, with candidates requiring the backing of at least 20 Conservative MPs.

First round of voting by Conservative MPs starts tomorrow. The candidate with the fewest votes for each round is eliminated until 2 remain.

Final vote is open to all Conservative Party members.

Good news. Scared for who might be next though.

We will have the final 2 in a few hours.

Who do you prefer out of the people left in the contest

Don't have a preference but Penny Mordaunt would be the most difficult target for Labour out of the final 3.

@Nightwing Final two are Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss. Easy targets for Labour regardless of who wins :icant:

Just saw. Let’s see if Keir Starmer will capitalize on this though. Everyone thought Boris Johnson was a bad pick for the Tories and he ended up being great for them, electorally.
