New lockdown in France starting Friday

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a second national lockdown for at least the whole of November.

 

Mr Macron said under the new measures, starting on Friday, people will only be allowed to leave home for essential work or medical reasons.

 

Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants and bars, will close, but schools and factories will remain open.

 

Covid daily deaths in France are at the highest level since April. On Tuesday, 33,000 new cases were confirmed.

Good for them. Our cases are just going up at a steady rate here in the US but I can't see any state going back into a full lock down mode again.

This is all very scary. I hope we can find a vaccine very soon to stop this madness and go back to normal.

It's unfortunate, but like most of Europe and the US have shown us, relaxing a bit too much results in another wave (and the cold weather makes this one likely worse). Hopefully we'll have a vaccine available by this time next year.
