I'll do the math for you

Example :

300 000 cases per day

50% less severe than Delta

= still 150 000 cases with high risks, able to overwhelm the hospitals

When people talk about "mild", it's about disease severity, not impact on the health system.

Also, that's not the right math. You're assuming all Delta infections lead to hospitalisation.

we are saying it's less severe cause unlike other variants Omicron is so contagious that it's touching everyone so it's useless to use data and compare with Delta/Alpha...etc :banana:

 it doesn't prejudice the fact that it's still the SARS COV.2 :banana:

and then why the admissions are increasing like never before ? so there is no disease severity and people just enter in the hospitals to sing for example ? :rip:

Because the number of cases is high. The symptoms are likely milder but transmission is likely much higher.

symptoms milder are not going to take people to the hospitals :banana:

It's not binary - symptomatic or asymptomatic. There's a range of disease severity for each variant.

but it's still not "mild"

maybe less than severe but Delta was already more dangerous than the first variant from Wuhan in 2020 so it means nothing

Usually, it's the GP that says "mild". Scientists will often say "milder" or "less severe".

17,988 patients are currently in hospital with COVID-19 in the UK, surpassing the peak during the Alpha variant wave. However, around 40% less patients are in mechanical ventilation beds.

@Miaou, French data also has a lot of Delta mixed in.

not anymore

Omicron became dominant more than 2 weeks ago now so it's Omicron for sure

the new numbers of ICU :rip:

+410 admissions in intensive cares in 24h vs +299 last Thursday (+37%)

the increase :rip:

+2401 hospitalisations in 24h vs +1922 last Thursday (+24%)

Total

21 169  people at the hospitals for COVID (+481)

3 759 people in ICU (+64)

a mess

So Let’s do the maths

new data say that with Omicron the risk to go to the hospital is around 1%

300K/400K daily cases

3000/4000 admissions per day at the hospital aka the record of the 1st wave

back to the beginning :rip: our tragic government learned nothing :rip:

and new data are also saying that Delta is still with a huge « plateau » and didn’t slow down so it will be worse :rip:

spacer.png

red = omicron

gray = delta
