My favorite poem is by a German poet and author but I'm not going to translate it :katy:

It's called "Kennst Du das Land, wo die Kanonen blühn?" by Erich Kästner

Mine is Hombre by Blas de Otero which I studied in Spanish literature

Spoiler

HOMBRE

Luchando, cuerpo a cuerpo, con la muerte,
al borde del abismo, estoy clamando
a Dios. Y su silencio, retumbando,
ahoga mi voz en el vacío inerte.
|
Oh Dios. Si he de morir, quiero tenerte
despierto. Y, noche a noche, no sé cuándo
oirás mi voz. Oh Dios. Estoy hablando
solo. Arañando sombras para verte.
|
Alzo la mano, y tú me la cercenas.
Abro los ojos: me los sajas vivos.
Sed tengo, y sal se vuelven tus arenas.
|
Esto es ser hombre: horror a manos llenas.
Ser -y no ser- eternos, fugitivos.
¡Ángel con grandes alas de cadenas!

I've always liked "America" by Ginsberg which I will now butcher by posting 4 lines from.

Spoiler

I can’t stand my own mind.
America when will we end the human war?
Go f-ck yourself with your atom bomb.
I don’t feel good don’t bother me.

I also very much liked Tommy Pico's "Nature Poem" which is a book-length poem.

Spoiler

I can't write a nature poem
bc it's fodder for the noble savage
narrative. I wd slap a tree across the face
I say to my audience

I should read more.

I love poetry, so it's hard to pick one favorite.

A poem that's stuck with my since my teenage years is Margaret Atwood's "you fit into me":

you fit into me

like a hook into an eye

a fish hook

an open eye

But I love so many poets and poems who write in a variety of languages: Li-Young Lee ("Persimmons" is my favorite), Rilke (I love "Archaic Torso of Apollo"), Stephen Dunn ("Loneliness" is a phenomenal poem), almost anything by Mary Oliver, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Pablo Neruda, various classical Chinese poems...

There was a poem I read in college called Icy Rose that I loved and I have never been able to find it again, no idea who it was by 🤔

"  I went down a million stairs, at least, arm in arm with you.

And now that you are not here, I feel emptiness at each step.

Our long journey was brief, though.

Mine still lasts, but I don't need

any more connections, reservations,

traps, humiliation of those who think reality

is what we are used to see." By Eugenio Montale ♥️

I've always loved this one by Langston Hughes:

DREAMS

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

I really liked this one ever since I saw it randomly on my FB wall. It reshaped  my pov in life.

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.

Henry Van Dyke

Spoiler

Jk, i just saw it randomly on google:icant:

I read more of fantasy novels/mangas more than traditional literatures.
