Of all the movies I had the chance to watch "Sound of Metal" and it's amazing! I hope it'll win something! I saw it in cinema and it's probably the best way to enjoy it (good sounding system is important factor).

I didn't even realize the extended the eligibility period so I thought Judas and the Black Messiah was going to be next year. I'm so happy for Lakeith. Also happy for Minari, I really need to watch it :bradley: Honestly I was so out of the loop with movies in 2020, there are a lot I still need to watch :ninja:

Final thoughts, if Glenn Close wins for Hillbilly Elegy then :katy:

Were there any big snubs? Usually with the Oscars I start watching the films after the nominations come out as usually before they really don't even run in cinemas in my country. Hopefully I find some inch resting viewing experiences.

I haven't seen most of the movies nominated so I can't argue either way, but this is what people on /r/oscarrace and /r/movies seem mostly to be surprised/upset about from most to least

  1. Lakeith Stanfield was nominated as supporting instead of lead
  2. Ma Rainey didn't get best picture or screenplay
  3. One Night in Miami didn't get best picture/Mank didn't get screenplay

Even though Regina King was robbed, so happy to finally see some diversity. It's awesome that for the first time, we have two women (and the first woman of color) nominated for Best Director, two Asian Americans nominated for Best Director, two men of Asian ancestry for Best Actor (and the first Muslim and first Asian American), and that half of the acting nominees are people of color...I think it's going to be Chloé Zhao's big night, but I'm hoping Minari picks up at least one Oscar.

Pretty sure that Boseman is a shoo-in for Best Actor, though Best Actress is a wild card for me. I'd love it if Youn Yuh-jung swept in as the surprise winner for Best Actress in a supporting role.

This is interesting because the movie is based on his character though imo it focussed more Daniel Kaluuya’s character.  Can’t say I’m surprised by the category.

Yeah apparently WB campaigned LaKeith as lead and Daniel Kaluuya (and Jesse Plemons) as supporting http://www.wbawards.com/film/?film=judasandtheblackmessiah

The Oscars ceremony will be held completely live and in-person.

Only nominees and their guests will be allowed and they will gather at a courtyard in the Union rail station, while other elements of the shows will be held at the home of the Academy Awards - the Dolby Theatre. All attendees will go through COVID tests.

The ceremony will be held on 25 April.

After the Grammys, I'm looking forward to another semi-traditional award show. But why is the Academy hosting an award ceremony in an essential highly trafficked transport hub while theaters and studios sit empty?

Am I alone in thinking it would be cool if winners accepted their awards from iconic outdoor backlots, old Hollywood theaters, hell, beloved second-run theaters? When I was a teenager, I snuck into the VMAs the year they hosted it on backlots and it was kind of cringe but at least we were outside and, y'know, not at a train station during rush hour :eyega:
