Because a) it's very likely for Gaga to win that award (a lot likelier than AOTY) b) if she wasn't going to win any more televised awards they would choose to televise that one, so Gaga could accept it on the main show

So that means that if they don't present the award on the main show, it means Gaga is more likely to win AOTY

At least that's what I think is the reasoning

Because the assumption is one of Tony win will be televised, producers would want Gaga to deliever emotional speech and honor Tony.

 

Music Video and Traditional Pop are always pretelecast. They bump pop duo on main show depending on situation. Like it was pre-telecasted last year because Gaga and Ariana weren't in attendence. But it was on main show, when Shallow lost SOTY/ROTY, so they had Gaga give speech through it.
