So is there a SINGLE SOUL here who actually stills think “Bipartisanship” is a thing?

@Nightwing how do we get 10 GOP senators for literally anything if they fillibuster equal pay for women and a 1/6 Commission? I feel Iike since you preach it a lot maybe you have ideas? At some point these senators preaching bipartisanship need to show that it actually works or they need to move aside and let things actually get done for the American people.

Pleasing the American people is far more important than pleasing 10 GOP senators and no one will ever change my mind, I could give literally zero shits about what people like Capito and Thune think/want honestly, they’re bad faith actors who don’t actually care what their constituents want

ALSO…..:tea: Stay tuned I guess

Well they don’t have to vote for everything, especially not bills that they view as being too partisan. My solution is abolishing the filibuster. I don’t think we should always have bipartisan support but we should at least aim for it when it involves big ticket items like infrastructure. It doesn’t hurt to reach across the aisle.

So you’re a believer that abolishing the filibuster will FORCE bipartisanship because it would allow the other party to ram through bills on a party line vote? Is that what you’re saying?

Cause while I agree with you that’s exactly the opposite of what people like Joe Manchin thinks..he thinks it won’t force bipartisanship, it will be the end of it.

As someone who favors bipartisanship aren’t you a little bit nervous that it would have the exact opposite effect of what you desire, that it would be the end of reaching across the aisle?

I think they will. They’ll probably prefer any Dem over another Republican :icant:

Republicans in that state are crazy :icant:

Hopefully. Kate’s not running again (term limits) so it won’t be directly about her. It’s a very very red state outside of Portland though

SO MANY UPDATES..........

1) 2022 Senate Races

Val Demings officially announced her running for the open 2022 Florida Senate seat against Marco Rubio

2) Infrastructure Week Rolls On.......

Infrastructure talks  between Capito and the White House officially has ended and Biden and the WH's focus has shifted to the a group of 10 senators from the Bipartisan G20 including; Joe Manchin (D-WV), Krysten Cinema (D-AZ), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Mark Warner (D-VA), Jon Tester (D - MT), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Susan Collins (R-ME), Rob Portman (R-OH), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Bill Cassidy (R-LA)......Romney and Portman were clear that they would not raise taxes to pay for infrastructure..a key democratic demand. That Gang of 10 released (kind of? lol) outlines for a plan before the Senate left Thursday Night......

The White House says Biden was briefed by senators on bipartisan infrastructure proposal and appreciates their work but “Questions need to be addressed, particularly around the details of both policy and pay fors, among other matters.” :laughga:

Bernie Sanders says that the Budget Committee may move next month to take up a non-binding budget resolution to set the stage for moving both Biden's $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan and $1.8 trillion American Families Plan via reconciliation process...

Dems were briefed on bipartisan infrastructure talks at their lunch today. There was pushback from some members about going too small. “You shouldn’t assume that a bipartisan package has 50 Democratic votes,” said one source....Democrats such as Brian Schatz, Martin Heinrich, Jeff Merkely, Ed Markey, Michael Bennet have ALL WARNED that a light climate related bill WOULD NOT BE OKAY....

3) Police Reform

Though it had been reported that Police reform negotiators had made significant progress on qualified immunity, three sources had told. NBC News. The negotiators hoped to have draft legislation within the next two weeks. But it seems that new challenged has arrived.....keep your eyes on this over the course of the month, cause if something isn't done by June this will fizzle out.

Details.....The changes to Sec. 242 in the draft legislative text are that it adds four crimes for which police could be held accountable: - obstruction of justice - theft - excessive use of force - sexual misconduct So it doesn't lower the bar for police culpability but adds offenses.....

4) Background Checks/Gun Laws

Talks between Chris Murphy (D-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX) have ceased....

5) G7 News

The Biden administration is buying 500 million doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine to donate to the world and other G7 leaders plan to rally around  Biden’s proposal for a Global 15% minimum tax..

I probably missed something but this is all I can think of.....have a good weekend y'all :gaga-thanks:

OMG I KNOW WHAT I FORGOT…..Trump’s DOJ…:laughga:

NYT Reports….Prosecutors subpoenaed Apple for data from the accounts of at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, aides and family members. The leak hunt began with the FBI sending a subpoena to Apple in February 2018, and including a gag order, seeking metadata on more than 100 accounts as part of an investigation into disclosure of classified information, according to a person familiar with matter. The gag order was renewed three times before it expired this year and Apple notified the customers. The House committee determined that along with members of committee and staff, the dragnet collected the records of family members, including at least one minor.

Now we know this is a big deal because you’re not allowed to use the DOJ as your personal lawyer…Trump was clearly using abusing his power and had his department purposefully investigate political opponents such as Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwall (both Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee)

Due in and Schumer are now calling on Sessions and Barr (both whom served as AG under Trump) to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee saying that if they don’t they are subject to subpoena…House Judiciary Democrats have criticized Garland’s Justice Department. House Intel Dems contend they’ve been unsuccessful trying to get information from DOJ about full extent of probe….Unsuccessful with DOJ, Democrats on House Intelligence plan to ask Apple to look into whether additional members were targeted by Trump Justice Department, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Now due to the 50-50 split senate…At least one Republican would have to join Democrats on the Judiciary Committee (which is evenly split between the parties) for a subpoena to be approved. Dems don’t have unilateral power here. The Senate power sharing deal stipulated that legislation or nominations that end up in a tie vote in committee can advance. Deal did not cover subpoenas nor resolutions…..THEREFORE…

If the vote deadlocks in committee, there is not a mechanism for Schumer to discharge the subpoenas from the committee and force a floor vote. Only the House Dems can issue subpoenas without GOP support…which is why the statement by Chuck Grassley is so important..they need a Republican is they want to issue a subpoena…

In fun news…..this tweet is making the rounds today….:mess:

Sorry yall been taking some days off lately and just not getting online much….Big SCOTUS news here….In a 7-2 ruling, the Supreme Court has thrown out a challenge to the Affordable Care Act, holding that the plaintiffs in the case lacked standing.

Obamacare has now survived three Supreme Court challenges that would have gutted or wiped out the law.…..:prideheart:

First Obamacare challenge: 5-4
Second Obamacare challenge: 6-3
Third Obamacare challenge: 7-2

Should be unanimous after two more rounds :laughga:

INCREDIBLY BIG VOTE TOMORROW ON DEMOCRATS VOTING RIGHTS BILL 🗳 5:30PM EST

Ita going to fail, but the more important question is if Manchin supports and it ends up being 50-50 split…IF THAT HAPPENS get ready for the conversation about filibuster reform to remove up dramatically….

It’s been reported that Amy Klobuchar she is still having talks with Joe Manchin in an effort to cut a voting deal that will get 50 members of her caucus on board.

“All is going well,” Klobuchar said. “He’s working in good faith”

“We worked all weekend” and are continuing to have talks tonight

Cautiously optimistic that Manchin will finally want to reform the filibuster if this fails, which it will. I heard somewhere that he’d be willing to lower the filibuster threshold to 55 instead of 60. We’ll see if this actually will push him over the line.

I guess we’re f-ed either way :laughga:….I hate these two I stfg

A bit of New York politics:

Buffalo will elect its first socialist mayor! Also the first openly socialist mayor of a major city in 60 years.

First round votes are in for the NYC Democratic Mayoral primary. Eric Adams leads (unfortunately) but on the bright side Maya Wiley is second and Andrew Yang conceded after he came in fourth with 11% :icant:

I can't wait to see how Yang wastes money and time to embarrass himself publicly next

Yall ready to get this watered down bill and literally nothing else? :rip:

Manchin gonna get everything in wants in this bill (no raised taxes on wealthy and corporations) and reconciliation will never happen..:mess: Progressives NEED to withhold their votes if they ever actually want to get ANY of their priorities passed…
